The Real Enterprise Isn’t Your Business…It’s Your Life

Edition #040

Why did you start your business?

Let me guess…

For more freedom. More energy. A deeper sense of satisfaction?

Thought so.😎

But here’s the paradox…

If one part of your life is out of alignment, it can quietly drain your energy, muddy your clarity, and drag everything else down with it.

You’re not a business owner in a vacuum. Things like your health, family, relationships, and hobbies all affect how you show up for your business—and vice versa.

You’re a whole person, and your life is the real enterprise.

Yet we spend so much time obsessing over business goals, from revenue targets to marketing funnels. We focus on the bottom line, sometimes to the detriment of everything else.

But what if true success is defined by something bigger?

The most thriving entrepreneurs I know are the ones who step back and ask a more powerful question:

“What does a great life look and feel like for me?”

Introducing the Wheel of Life

One of the first tools I use with my clients isn’t a KPI dashboard—it’s the Wheel of Life.

Imagine your life as a wheel with eight essential spokes:

This example includes:

  • Career
  • Money
  • Love
  • Friends
  • Family
  • Fun
  • Health
  • Spirituality

You rate your satisfaction in each area from 1 to 10. If some areas are a 9 and others are a 2, that wheel isn’t rolling very smoothly, is it? The goal isn’t a perfect 10 across the board, because let’s be honest, nothing is ever perfect. The goal is balance—a smoother, more joyful ride.

Your wheel—just like you—is unique.

I love seeing the variety in my clients’ Wheels and learning what their unique, Level 10 life looks like. It’s never the same for any two people. Here are just a few of the visions I’ve had a peek at:

  • Building a thriving company while never missing a kid’s sports event.
  • Be a CEO and a part-time theatre producer.
  • Generating the freedom to own a dog bar.
  • Build a firm with a reputation for training excellent legal talent.
  • Becoming a billionaire who invests in people.

Your version of “thriving” should be as unique as you are.

Success isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s self-defined.

Mini Challenge:

Now let’s take a brief pause for you to do this activity on your own.

Take five minutes to rate your satisfaction in these eight areas of life. Think about what your promised land truly looks like.

Once you have your results, ask yourself: “If my business was part of a bigger life I love—not the whole thing—what would need more attention?”

And pick just one area of your wheel and give it a little time this week. It might just shift everything else.

Takeaway:

  • The goal isn’t more hustle. It’s building a future that feels like yours—in work, time, relationships, and legacy.

Here to help you take back your time,
