Can You Stop Hustling For a Minute? Thank You.

Edition #026

You wouldn’t try to hammer out your next big business plan amidst the chaos of a team meeting, would you?

The strategic thinking, the deep dives, the imaginative leaps – they demand focused, uninterrupted time.

So, why do we so often expect to design the very blueprint of our lives in the fleeting slivers of time between emails, calls, and mile-long to-do lists?

Last spring, I started working with a client who was feeling utterly overwhelmed. They were constantly reacting—solving problems, answering questions, and keeping everything afloat. The business was growing, but the pace was unsustainable.

The work they loved—strategic operations and product invention—was nowhere in sight. What they needed was simple, but rare: space to think.

A year later, they have it. A weekend with no work commitments and few personal plans has become their space to reflect. And now? Mondays feel exciting again.

With obligation low, creativity soared. A premium product outline took shape. Plans for a scalable, white-labeled offering came into focus. And somewhere in the mix, they even perfected a sous vide crème brûlée.

Turns out, a little whitespace can lead to big ideas—and sweet results. 😋

Let’s face it.

As business leaders, we live in constant motion.

We’re problem-solvers, team leaders, demand-meeters, and often, household jugglers.

Reflection gets squeezed into the minimal margins – late nights, rushed weekends, or, all too often, not at all.

But without dedicated time, charting your future becomes just another item on the never-ending task list, approached with the same hurried energy as everything else.

What is whitespace?

Think of whitespace as unscheduled time – mental, emotional, and even physical room to simply be and to think.

It’s not just about rest or leisure (though those are vital too!). Whitespace is about creating deliberate pockets for strategic self-awareness.

It’s in this uncluttered mental landscape that your best ideas often take root. It’s where you can connect seemingly disparate dots, identify emerging opportunities, and truly feel into the future you want to create.

Ever had a eureka moment in the shower, before your brain fills with the day’s to-dos? That’s whitespace in action.

I’ve personally found that my most innovative ideas and clearest direction emerge when the house is quiet and I’m not near a computer. In those intentionally quiet moments I can truly reflect.

Why It Matters for Visioning:

A compelling vision for the next decade of your life and business isn’t built on relentless hustle. It’s nurtured in the moments of pause.

If you genuinely want to imagine a future that excites you, a future that’s bigger and bolder than your current day-to-day, you have to intentionally step out of the immediate long enough to see it clearly.

You need the distance that whitespace provides.

Believe it or not, even one hour of focused whitespace each week, dedicated solely to reflection and future-thinking, can fundamentally change how you perceive and approach the next ten years of your life and business.

Micro Lesson:

Here’s a small but powerful action you can take right now:

Block 60 minutes on your calendar this week.

No email.

No meetings.

Just you, a pen, and one question…

What do I want the next decade of my life to feel like?”

See what emerges when you give yourself that dedicated space.

Takeaways:

  • Business leaders are constantly in motion — but designing the next decade requires intentional whitespace to think, feel, and imagine beyond the day-to-day.
  • Work on your life, not just in it.
  • The Design Your Decade mastermind is designed to be your built-in whitespace. It’s one powerful hour each week where you get to intentionally work on your life, not just in it.

Find the time or I’ll find it for you,

Laurie
