This Is What’s Slowing Your Business Down

Edition #069

Hi [FIRST NAME GOES HERE],

Every meaningful decision carries some risk.

And lately, you’re making them in a world that does not sit still.

Markets shift. Technology evolves. AI rewrites job descriptions before lunch. The expectations for work environments keep changing.

None of it feels especially stable. So hesitation starts to feel responsible.

You gather input, ask a few more questions, and tell yourself you’re being thoughtful.

And sometimes you are.

But here is what I am seeing more often in my coaching work:

It is not flawed decisions that stall momentum.

It is delayed ones.

Clarity Beats Certainty Every Time

Lack of data is rarely the problem. The discomfort of deciding is.

You want rationale. You want buy-in. You want at least one person to say, “Yes, that’s clearly the right move!”

Those signals make leadership feel safer.

But leadership is not about feeling safe… it is about facilitating safety for others.

Waiting does not make the decision safer. It just keeps everyone guessing.

You don’t get to wait for clarity. You are the one who creates it.

And that is not always comfortable.

But timely decisions win.

When You Don’t Decide, This Is What Happens

Once a team senses hesitation at the top, energy shifts.

Strong performers start hedging. Innovation slows. Meetings get longer because no one is quite sure what matters most. Projects hover near completion but stall because no one is sure which trade-off is acceptable.

Your team can handle change. What they struggle with is silence. (Or worse, a bunch of words that mean nothing.)

Trust does not collapse all at once. It erodes when direction feels optional.

A moving organization can steer. A stalled one debates.

Why This Shows Up Everywhere

As a business owner, I make daily decisions about what to offer, how to price it, and where to invest in promotion.

I would love to wait until the data feels complete or the response feels obvious. But if I wait for perfect validation, nothing launches.

And nothing launched means no feedback. No revenue. No learning.

It is the same at home.

My family loves to go places. They enjoy the adventure and the memories afterward. But they provide little input on when or where…

If I decide, we have something to look forward to. Energy builds, plans form, and bags get packed!

If I wait for input, we are still at the kitchen table in July saying, “Maybe we should plan something next year.” Sound familiar?

Leadership at home works the same way it does at work.

Direction creates momentum.

Where is your desire for certainty costing your team the clarity they need to keep moving?

💡Your Turn

If something has been circling for more than 3 days, give yourself 24 hours to decide. Not because you are certain, but because it is your role to create direction. Most decisions are adjustable. Very few are permanent tattoos.

To kissing analysis paralysis goodbye,

Laurie
