Is Your Dreamer Dead?
My dreamer was dead.
Maybe it was because a milestone birthday was on the horizon.
I don’t know.
It was like I woke up one day and realized… I’ve been working and living but to what end?
For so long my kids and my work had filled every moment. I had loved both roles, but I was all of a sudden feeling restless.
I should be feeling accomplished, but I felt trapped.
What comes next?
This feeling was foreign to me.
Early in my career, my dreamer had guided me from one big goal to the next.
Somewhere midlife I got really busy and she must have gotten crowded out or dismissed, and I hadn’t noticed until it was too late.
I’m not sure what happened, but I needed my dreamer back.
I needed to live with intention again.
The kind that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning with anticipation for the day and work at something that makes you so happy you can’t believe you get paid to do it!
In the midst of my struggle I met a guide. A coach who walked beside me through the fear of letting go of work that was lucrative, but no longer fulfilling.
My guide reacquainted me with my values and encouraged me to think about how to turn those things into a business and a legacy of service I was excited to create.
And guess what?
My dreamer….she’s back!
Why am I telling you this?
When the demands of work and life are great, it’s easy to get carried away in the day-to-day until one day you can wake up realizing that the business you have built is demanding things you no longer find fulfilling and you aren’t sure how you got to this place.
Or maybe you love what you do and your business is growing, but growth is requiring more and more of your time and you wish there was more time to dream about even bigger goals.
My lesson learned, stop the ride long enough to ask yourself these questions:
- Am I doing the work that lights me up?
- Is it work that aligns with what I value?
- Do I live my days inspired and guided by a vision of the legacy I want to leave in the world?
Growing with ease requires time for reflection and inspiration. So take the time before it’s too late. If you need help give me a shout. I want you to be excited and assured in your vision for the decade ahead.
A fellow dreamer,
Laurie
